Organizers

Organizers

Organizers represent the people or organizations that run your events. Each organizer is a custom post type (tribe_organizer) with contact information and its own page on your site. You can attach one or more organizers to each event, so attendees always know who is responsible.

Creating an Organizer

From the Organizers Admin

  1. Go to Events > Organizers in your WordPress admin.
  2. Click Add New.
  3. Enter the organizer name (required) and fill in the optional fields.
  4. Add a featured image if you want to display a photo or logo.
  5. Click Publish.

Inline from the Event Editor

While editing an event, open the Organizer dropdown and select Create New. Enter the organizer name and details inline without leaving the event editor. The organizer is saved when you save the event.

The dropdown supports type-ahead search — start typing a name and matching organizers appear.

Organizer Fields

FieldRequiredDescription
NameYesThe organizer’s name, used as the post title
DescriptionNoRich text bio or organization description
PhoneNoContact phone number
WebsiteNoExternal URL (validated with esc_url_raw)
EmailNoContact email address
Featured ImageNoA photo, headshot, or logo displayed as a thumbnail

Attaching Organizers to Events

On the event editor, the Organizer meta box shows a dropdown of all published organizers. Select one to attach it to the event.

To add more than one organizer, click the Add Another button. A new dropdown appears where you can select or create an additional organizer. There is no hard limit on the number of organizers per event.

Organizer IDs are stored as a comma-separated string in the _tribe_event_organizer_ids meta field. If you need to work with this value programmatically:

$organizer_ids = get_post_meta( $event_id, '_tribe_event_organizer_ids', true );
$ids_array = array_map( 'absint', explode( ',', $organizer_ids ) );

Organizer Pages

Each organizer gets a dedicated page at /organizer/{slug}/. This page displays the organizer description, contact details, featured image, and a list of upcoming events they are organizing.

You can override the template in your theme by creating a single-tribe_organizer.php file.

Reusing Organizers

Organizers are designed to be reused across events. Create an organizer once and select it from the dropdown on any number of events. If an organizer’s contact details change, update the organizer post and the new information appears on all linked events automatically.

Removing an organizer from an event does not delete the organizer. Deleting an organizer does not delete any events — those events simply lose the organizer reference.

Custom Capabilities

Organizer management uses its own set of capabilities:

  • edit_tribe_organizers — create and edit own organizers
  • edit_others_tribe_organizers — edit organizers created by other users
  • publish_tribe_organizers — publish organizers
  • delete_tribe_organizers — delete own organizers
  • read_private_tribe_organizers — view private organizers

These capabilities are assigned to Administrator and Editor roles by default. Use a role management plugin to extend access to other roles.

Common Questions

Can I assign the same organizer to multiple events? Yes. That is exactly how organizers are intended to work. Create the organizer once and select it on every event they run.

How do I remove an organizer from an event without deleting them? On the event editor, click the remove (X) button next to the organizer in the meta box. This detaches the organizer from the event but does not delete the organizer post.

Can I add an organizer without a phone number or email? Yes. Only the name is required. All other fields are optional. You might have organizers that are organizations with just a website, or individuals with just an email.

Do organizer pages show past events? The organizer page lists upcoming events by default. Past events associated with the organizer are still accessible through the event archive and direct URLs, but they are not displayed on the organizer page.

How do I reorder organizers on an event? Organizers display in the order they were added. To reorder them, remove all organizers from the event and re-add them in the order you want.

Can site visitors submit an organizer? If Community Events is enabled, users submitting events can select existing organizers or create new ones from the frontend submission form. New organizers created this way go through the same approval process as the event.
